The goal here is to divide yourselves as evenly as possible between the machines. A good strategy might be to be on the same machine as other people you do the problem set with. Since there are less than 24 people in the class, and 8 machines, let's try to have no more than 3 people per machine.
Actually, this is not a hard-and-fast rule, since your files are visible from all of the machines. The goal is just to prevent everyone from running their computations on the same machine at the same time, thus making it a slow experience for all involved.
